What we do

Ogilvie Vaile Conservation specialises in the conservation and restoration of works of art on paper and other paper-based artefacts. The business was established in April 2006 and is based within the Collection Care and Conservation Department of  Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.  It is a private practice, wholly independent of the Birmingham Museums Trust.

We offer a comprehensive conservation-restoration service for works of art on paper, library and archive material, wallpaper and other paper objects.  Clients include museums and galleries, historic houses, libraries, archives, theatres, art dealers, picture framers and individuals.

Services offered

  • condition checks for exhibitions and surveys of paper-based material for HLF bids
  • advice on preventive conservation issues and the storage of paper objects
  • mounting and framing for exhibitions
  • a comprehensive range of practical treatments
  • advice on preservation of paper artefacts in historic houses
  • delivery of on site training for staff or volunteers in paper conservation issues
